When it comes to Yang Guang, people first think of the song "You Are My Eye" he sang in "Starlight Avenue", which touched the audience at that time, and Yang Guang became the champion of "Starlight Avenue" in 2007. More than a decade later, Yang Guang is still active on the stage.
In 1979, Yang Guang was born into an ordinary worker's family in Harbin. Eight months later, he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma by doctors. Since then, Yang Guang has lost his eyesight completely.

At first Yang Guang didn't feel any difference between himself and others. Until one time he was chasing with his little buddies, when a basin of water was hanging in the yard, the other children all went around, only he ran in a straight line and planted his head in the basin. "Then I heard the grandmother behind him say that the child can't see and still do so, which is amazing." Since then, Yang Guangcai has found himself different from others. Family members did not hinder Yang Guang's access to the outside world because of his visual impairment. When he was a child, his mother would often take him to the unit to watch movies. On snowy days, his grandmother would take him outside to feel the snow. These experiences enable Yang Guangguang to perceive the world in other ways. "The more sensory functions you use, the more sensitive he will be. The less you use him, the more likely you will be dull."
At the age of seven, Yang Guang entered the local blind school and began to systematically engage in music. Yang Guang spends four or five hours practicing the piano every day. He may practise for about seven hours during winter and summer vacation. Yang Guang's uncle, who teaches in high school, was also his music enlightenment teacher. "At that time, there was no piano at home. My uncle would take me to their school to play the piano. He had a great influence on me." When Yang Guang was 14 years old, he joined the band of Heilongjiang Disabled Persons'Federation, and when there were activities, everyone gathered to perform together. "In the early 1990s, when Harbin was flooded, we were touring the riverside, and there were seven performances in that week. Then it was also for disaster relief, and I lived and ate with the army after seven days of not returning home. This experience also planted a seed of public welfare in Yang Guang's heart. In 2001, Yang Guang came to Beijing hopefully to find opportunities, but he was frustrated repeatedly. "At that time, many bars needed singers, but a person with visual impairment, basically no one accepted you."

Later, Yang Guang finally found a singing job in a hotel, playing and singing four sections every night for 15 minutes. But after working there for more than a month, he changed the hotel because the hotel needed a new singer to satisfy everyone. Yang Guang had a very difficult time when he first arrived in Beijing. He had lived in the basement, slept in a bed of 15 yuan, and had no money to eat a meal every day. "At that time, he didn't eat in the morning, then he didn't eat in the evening for a while, and then he rushed to the junction of noon and afternoon, and then he ate again. This meal could basically last one day." Hard life can not stop Yang Guang from pursuing his music dream, and his efforts have finally paid off.

In 2007, Yang Guang participated in the competition of Starlight Avenue. He became the champion all the way from the weekly champion to the monthly champion.

Overnight, he became a household star. After becoming famous, Yang Guang participated in CCTV Spring Festival Gala and served as the torchbearer of the 2008 Paralympic Games. He changed his destiny through music. In 2008, a huge earthquake occurred in Wenchuan. Yang Guang was shocked when he heard the news of the earthquake. When he returned to Beijing the next day, he went to the Red Cross Society and donated 30,000 yuan. "I told my mother that although I didn't have much money right now, I felt I had to do my part for such a big thing."

From supporting education, public welfare lectures and concerts to teaching, Yang Guang's public welfare has not stopped since 2008. In 2009, Yang Guang released his original album "I am Yang Guang" and donated all the money he sold to "Operation Bright - Cataract Recovery Project". Yang Guang has been practicing public welfare for more than ten years, and his personal donation has exceeded one million. "Over the years, I have received a lot of recognition for public welfare, but every time I do not feel that recognition will make me proud. I just feel that I have this honor, I will feel very responsible, because there are so many people in need of help."

Now, in addition to daily performances and program recording, Yang Guang focuses on public welfare. Recently, Yang Guang and his team are planning documentaries and movies about disabled people. He hopes to use images to voice for disabled people. "Maybe many people think that disabled people need our help. In fact, there are many physically handicapped people who can create miracles, and they can create great value for society."
Speaking of the future, Yang Guang hopes that through music, more people will be touched by the harvest and do more meaningful things with public welfare. Optimism and self-confidence have always been the primary characteristics of Yang Guang's personality. In his view, life is full of sunshine. "A person's life can not only be gray but not happy. Why not show the better one to others?"
